Roadtrip to Niagara

October 24, 2017

Niagara Falls was on my bucket list since forever. So when we moved to US, it was obviously the first place I wanted to visit. Nevertheless it took me two year to make that dream a reality.

American and Bridal Veil Falls

My mother-in-law and my hubby's niece were visiting from India this summer so we decided to go mid-august. Needless to say it was one of the best travel experiences I have had till date. The falls are just stunningly beautiful. Its just not possible for you to not get lost in their beauty. To me, they were also intimidating due to their sheer size. The Horseshoe falls are a whooping 188 feet high and 2600 feet wide. They are also 10,000 years old and according to an estimate they attract 30 million tourists every year.

We visited the falls on the US side. Apart from Horseshoe falls which is on the US-Canadian border, there are two more falls on the American side: Bridal Veil and the American falls.

The high point of our trip was without a doubt the Cave of the Winds. And be prepared to get soaked when visiting, you wouldn't want to test the power of the Falls. The moment you start on the stairs to the platform under Bridal Falls the mist will engulf you. Once below the Falls you wouldn't get a chance to save yourself even with the poncho that is provided to each visitor. I would recommend wearing shorts if weather permits. No matter how much you try to pull your jeans of trousers up it willet wet like water dripping wet. And on't forget to secure the poncho cap or else you will also have a water soaked shirt (like I did.) Same goes for your camera gear, protect it thoroughly to save it from water damage.

Here are some of the photographs of the falls. All were taken with my iPhone.

We purchased tickets to Cave of the Winds, Maid of the Mist and Scenic Trolley. There is also an option to purchase Niagara Falls USA Discovery Pass which includes six attractions. Reaching early at the falls was also a blessing as the queue for the tickets and the attractions were very short. But as the day went on and the temperatures increased, they kept increasing. I would suggest buying tickets and Discovery pass online to save yourself from the long lines.

This one trip wasn't enough for us and we're already planning to return next year. The next time around we plan to visit it from the Canadian side. The main attractions on our list being Skylon Tower, Whirlpool aero car and the Niagara SkyWheel.

All I have to say, if you are waiting or have been postponing a trip to Niagara Falls "Just go". Niagara has something to offer to everyone: adults and kids alike. Its just so pretty to miss and everyone should go at least once.

Hope you will find my post useful. I will upload videos soon. Your suggestions are all welcome and please do share your experiences if you have been to Niagara Falls. If you have questions regarding visiting Niagara Falls please feel free to ask. I will try my best to help you!
